Dog Fouling

The Parish Council has received a huge number of complaints in recent days regarding dog fouling in the village.  In particular some very irresponsible dog owners are bagging up their dogs faeces and leaving them by the lamp posts in St Leodegars Way.  Other problem areas include the playing field, the old Selsey tramway and the canal path.

All dog owners are reminded that under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, it is illegal not to clean up after your dog in areas to which the public have access; offenders could be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £75.  Designated Council Officers and Police Community Support Officers can issue fixed penalty notices on the spot.  However, fixed penalty notices can also be issued if we receive a witness statement from anyone who sees the offence being committed.

The problem has been reported to the District Council’s Dog Wardens and the local PCSO.  The Parish Council will support the prosecution of anyone who does not clear up after their dog.  Please remember that if you have bagged it up you can deposit the bag in any litter bin – not just the designated dog poo bins in the village.

If you do see anyone not picking up after their dog then please report them to the Parish Council (01243 789039) or the District Council Dog Wardens directly (01243 534734).
