Vacancy for a Councillor

There is one vacancy on Hunston Parish Council and this position will be filled by co-option at the meeting of the Council to be held on Wednesday 25th November at 6.30pm in the Annexe at Hunston VillageHall.

Should more than one application be received for the vacancy, councillors will decide the appointment by a vote, or series of votes, in order to obtain a majority decision.

To be considered for co-option, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:

1. Be registered as a Local Government Elector for the Parish on the current Electoral Register.

2. Has during the whole of the previous 12months occupied as tenant or owner any land or other premises in the Parish.

3. Has had his/her principal or only place of work in the previous 12months in the Parish of Hunston.

4. Has resided either in the Parish or within 3 miles thereof during the previous 12 months.

A Local Government Elector for Hunston may obtain, inspect or take a copy of the Statement of Accounts and Auditor’s Certificate and report by arrangement with the Clerk.

Changes to Driving Licences

From 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart to the photocard driving licence will not be valid and will no longer be issued by DVLA.  The counterpart was introduced to display driving licence details that could not be included on the photocard.  These details include some vehicle categories you are entitled to drive and any endorsement/ penalty points.

Please note this does not affect photocard licences issued by DVA in Northern Ireland.

VE Day celebrations

Friday 8 May 2015 is the anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day), marking 70 years since the end of the second world war in Europe.

The 70th anniversary of VE Day will see beacons lit in cities throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man in commemoration of the peace that these and others helped to realise.

At the going down of the sun on the 8 May the first beacon will be lit (at a location to be announced) followed by a chain of over 100 beacons across the UK. The Beacon on Hunston Playing Field will be part of this event and will be lit with hundreds of others at 9.30pm on Friday 8th May 2015. Residents of Hunston, their friends and families are warmly invited to join in these celebrations.

Neighbourhood Plan questionnaire

Your Parish Council is putting together a Neighbourhood Plan for Hunston village. The results of this survey will determine the underpinning principles and overall direction of our plan and so it is very important that you, your family and your neighbours take this opportunity to make your views known.

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
A Neighbourhood Plan is a new way for local people to influence the planning and development of the area in which they live and work. It lasts for 15 years and should:
• Develop a shared vision for a village or town.
• Choose where new homes, shops, offices and other development should be built.
• Influence how much housing should be built, and of what type.
• Identify and protect important local green spaces or other treasured assets.

Once approved, our plan will have legal force in setting out what development is acceptable in our parish and for what reasons. Developers and local authority planners will have to take notice of it. Without a Neighbourhood Plan, we will have little control over any development that takes place and will receive less community funds from those developments.

We can influence development, not stop it altogether.
Our Neighbourhood Plan must comply with Chichester District Council’s Local Plan and the government’s wider policy of sustainable development. This means that it is inevitable that some new housing will have to be built in Hunston in the future. Having a Neighbourhood Plan in place will help us ensure that this housing is suitable for the parish and meets the needs of our area. It will also help us to identify the facilities and services that need to be in place to meet the demands that any new housing will make upon our community.

Parish Meeting

This years Annual Parish Meeting will take place on Wednesday 25th March 2015 at 7pm in the Village Hall.  Look out for the invitation coming through your door in the next few days.  We hope that you will come along and find out what the Parish Council is doing for the village.

Help make a difference for your village and community – become a Parish Councillor.

A thriving Parish Council is needed now more than ever to help look after the interests, services, environment and facilities of Hunston village.  By offering some time; sharing your particular knowledge and experiences; and getting involved in areas of interest or concern, you can help make a difference.

You or anyone you know could join the Parish Council by standing for one of the 7 seats in the May 2015 elections.

Come to the Parish Council drop in sessions and find out more about your Parish Council and help them understand your community needs.

Pagham Harbour update

Renewal of Pagham Harbour’s Local Nature Reserve designation

West Sussex County Council, as the designating authority, for Pagham Harbour LNR, in partnership with the RSPB is holding a drop-in event from 2.00pm to 8.00pm on Tuesday 24th February at the Pagham Harbour Visitor Centre in Sidlesham to provide information on the renewal of the existing LNR designation.

Following changes in landownership or landowner aspirations, it is important to re- declare the Local Nature Reserve (LNR) boundary for Pagham Harbour. This is a renewal of the existing LNR designation to reflect such changes on the ground.

Since the transfer of the day to day management of the nature reserve from West Sussex County Council to the RSPB three years ago, both parties have been in discussions with landowners and occupiers over drawing up agreements to include their land within the LNR. There has been a great response and WSCC and the RSPB would like to thank all landowners for their support and willingness to be part of one of the finest wildlife sites in the UK.

The benefits of the LNR designation include the potential to secure external funding, the ability through landowner agreements to undertake environmental monitoring and management, and the protection of wildlife through the enforcement of bylaws.

Everyone is welcome and there will be maps, literature and displays providing information on both the Reserve and the re-designation, which is expected to be concluded later in the year.
